FAQ
Do I need to be fit?

No, you do not need to be fit to start with Storm Martial Arts. One of the major benefits of kickboxing is that you will see an increase in fitness, flexibility and strength. As an old Chinese proverb says ‘the best time to plant a tree is 10 years ago, the second-best time is now’.

Do I need previous experience?

All of our classes are designed so that the total beginner can walk into the class and have a fully active part in our classes.

Coach Reney is a big believer that fitness, physical and mental wellbeing is for all and there is no better time to start than now.

What is Kickboxing?

Kickboxing is a modern day martial art which combines the kicking technique from martial arts such as Karate, Tae Kwon Do and Muay Thai and conventional punching techniques from western Professional Boxing.

Kickboxing offers something for everyone whether its goals are fitness, weight loss, confidence and self-esteem building, ambitions to become a black belt or ambitions to compete.

What do I need to wear or bring to my first class?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting workout clothes (like jogging bottoms and a t-shirt) that allow you to stretch and kick freely. Kickboxing is usually done barefoot, so no special shoes are needed. Just bring a water bottle and a towel.

What age groups are the classes for?

We offer three different classes for different age ranges.

Our Primary kickboxing class is focused on young people at Primary school, building the fundamentals and life skills.

You do not have to grade. If you only want to join us for fitness and self-defence, that is absolutely fine. Join our community and train with us.

What if I don't want to spar?

We will never force you to do anything you do not want to do. If you are thinking of joining us for the fitness and self-defence, you do not need to spar. If you are considerring grading, sparring becomes essential.

Can parents watch a class?

Parents can watch the first trial session to confirm they are happy with how sessions are run. After that we do not have spectators as observations are a distraction and can also lead to additional pressure we want to avoid for our students.
